Anatomy lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons

3rd June 2008
On Thursday 12 June, Professor Vishy Mahadevan, Professor of Surgical Anatomy and Barbers' Company Reader of Anatomy will give a lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons.  Tickets for Surgical Society members are free (usually £5) but must be booked in advance.

The title of this lecture is as follows:
Anatomical dissection: is it still relevant to surgical training?
Thursday 12 June, 7pm

In this lecture Professor Mahadevan will point to the traditional studies of medical students and surgeons who have learnt about the internal structure of the human body through careful and systematic dissection of preserved human remains.  The lecture will detail the recent advances in 3D computer assisted representations, showing how MRI and CT imaging have opened up new methods for learning anatomy.  Professor Mahadevan will ultimately question whether new technologies can supplant the basic information provided by dissection.

This lecture promises to be incredibly interesting and will complement the recent lecture by Dr von Hagens, hosted by Scalpel at the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester.
